AUSTRALIA

Chris Wyman

When I finally decided to upgrade from my Renault 17's to an Alpine, I went to England where in late 1996 I purchased my then two toned atmo GTA from Portsmouth. After approx. one year of driving on narrow English laneways I returned home to Australia's wide open roads.

After a few minor changes the GTA passed Australian design regulations and the car was ready to register, when my then fiancee Wendy blew up the engine on Christmas Eve 1997.

So began the metamorphis of my GTA. To make amends Wendy gave me a set of original GTA wheels for Christmas to replace the 6x15 rims that were on it. While off the road I decided to update the engine and increase power by converting from carburetor to fuel injection. A paint job and a few hicups along the way saw the car back on the road four years later. Just in time for the first Renault Alpine get together Down Under 2001.

I now enjoy driving my Alpine daily to work and to other motoring events.
