Alpine GTA - Price Guide (Last Revision Feb 09)

Please note: Values given below are for RHD cars. LHD values are considerably higher (50%-100%) due to easy repatriation.

Facts:

The GTA and GTA Le Mans are now officially recognised as classic cars and this is reflected by stronger and more realistic trade values from CAP, Glass's & Parker's (see below).

GTA V6 GT's (normally aspirated) are worth around 10% less than the V6 Turbo (same year & mileage). Having said that some people prefer the normally aspirated car and will actively look for one.

The GTA Le Mans is the most valuable variant. UK trade guides value this car the highest, however French publications such as Mille Miles value the A610 slightly higher.

As with all older cars condition is more important than mileage or year of registration, although a late low mileage car will always be more desirable. In addition GTA speedos are notoriously unreliable, so that low mileage car may not be all it seems - check old MOT's and service records. It is not uncommon for cars to run for many years with a defective speedo as replacement costs are prohibitive.

Figures quoted below are for standard un-modified cars. Cars with extensive modification or renovation, extremely low mileage or particular provenance may depending on your opinion be worth more or less. This is purely a matter of personal choice and what you are prepared to pay. However any premium paid may be hard to re-capitalise in the future, particularly in the case of modified vehicles.

Choose carefully. Expert inspection is advised (Not the AA or RAC!). Neglected GTA's that look basically sound can soon accumulate huge repair bills. e.g. 2 cracked headlamp glasses  = £200 each + fitting = £600+

Do not necessarily be overly impressed with claims of 'over £10K bills'. Any GTA / A610 that was regularly serviced by a Renault Main Dealer in its early life could easily accumulate this level of cost in a few years. Look instead for evidence of more recent maintenance.

Figures:

GTA V6 GT & Turbo

(Normally aspirated cars are worth approx £1000 less than the turbo)

Up to £2000          Fair Condition. Usually with no MOT. A project car that may be more cost effective to break. Do not pay more than this for a car with any substantial bodywork damage or one that could not easily obtain an MOT.

£2000 - £4000     Average condition cars with some MOT, useable but possibly requiring some mechanical attention or paintwork

£4000 - £5000     Good useable cars with recent MOT, requiring little or no immediate maintenance but probably requiring some cosmetic attention.

£5000 - £7000      Very good cars with new MOT. No major mechanical or noticeable cosmetic faults.

£7000 - £8000      The very best ultra low mileage or restored examples. Concours condition cars.

You will see GTA's advertised at dealers or in glossy magazines for as much as £10K. In my opinion these prices are inflated. If you want to spend that sort of money buy an A610 or Le Mans. This will be a better investment in the long run. If of course anyone would like to pay £10K for any of my GTA's then they are of course most welcome!

GTA Le Mans

Upto £10000         Accident damaged cars or restoration projects but as far as we know they have now all been repaired or restored so don't expect to find another!

£10000 - £12000  Good useable cars with recent MOT, requiring little or no immediate maintenance. May have some cosmetic faults.

£12000 - £14000  Very good cars with new MOT. No major mechanical or noticeable cosmetic faults.

£14000+                The very best ultra low mileage or restored examples. Concours condition cars.

Very rarely offered for sale in the UK (only 26RHD). Often owned by museums, collectors or serious Alpine enthusiasts who would not be prepared to sell them at any price!
