And how many times have you taken your engine out in the last 30years before Clee did ?everytime you disconnect old pipes or electric connectors you disturb the muk that has formed a good seal in all this time. When you put it back together even if you replace with new there are risks of leaks...
I have taken my engine and the rest of the car apart and replaced a lot of parts with new and still it's leaking everywhere... Fluids under pressure will always find the littlest imperfection in a joint /seal and make its way out is the laws of physics you can't beat it...

Christ, bit of a faff for a couple of leaks.

Fair enough if the engine had self imploded after 50 miles of being rebuilt but these engine's aren't exactly renowned for being dry and driveshaft seals are a pain in the proverbial. Relatively simple fixes though.

I'm quite sure Lee will have worked far more hours that he has ever charged for on this and many other cars. People just don't realise how much of a pain in the backside working on 30 year old cars is. Nothing is ever easy, everything takes time and owners are usually pushing for the job to be done quickly (which never helps). I'm not sure a 50 mile test drive is the norm either?

It's a good job Lee, John etc are around to help keep these specialist cars on the road. :up

If anyone is suffering with oil, fuel, water leaks, I can highly recommend "Heldite jointing compound" you can buy it at plumbers merchant.
Works wonders.

clee wrote:No ...Car had extensive rot .Both doors were knackered. It had stood rotting for years .It came to me after I advised him it would be worth more than the usual RHD rotter .He had been offered rotbox UK money for it .
We rot busted it,refurbed running gear front and rear/subframe,new brakes, bearings, balljoints, clutch, waterpipes and passed MOT with no advisories .This was all done at a fixed price and the brief was to get car to MOT std.It would then be shipped to his mate in Brum for paint.
Harry seems to think he should have got a new car for his money and anything that goes wrong with it from now on is down to me .He rang me once the other day,I was busy so didn't pick up .He then started slating me on a Frenchy FBook page less than 24hrs later.
I've had this conversation already.......he says he will slate me on every Alpine forum he can find so I'm not going to comment any further on the subject.

That,s funny Lee you try to Buy my LHD Renault Alpine GTA ,Off me and offered me £4800 for this Rot BOX of a Alpine .LOl Be for the Rebuild .
