Wheels & Tyres
Standard GTA wheels and tyres are 15" front and rear in 4 stud fitment.
Unusually the cars are fitted with three bolts and one nut/stud from the factory. Locking nuts should be fitted to the single stud to avoid three different fittings per wheel. Almost all locking wheel nut catalogues incorrectly list locking bolts for the GTA. You need a 1.25 fine thread nut with a taper seat.
Original wheels are usually the Turbo or 'turbine' style, however some cars were fitted with rare BBS (genuine) two piece spoked wheels. Early normally aspirated cars had a different style rim but these took metric tyres which are now almost impossible to obtain. All of these wheels are a little small by today's standards and most owners usually want to upgrade. This also widens up the choice of tyres which is now very limited for the standard rims.
225/50/15 and 255/45/15 are both correct factory sizes for the rear wheels. The wider 255/45/15 patterns are now extremely expensive.
Larger modern tyre sizes are considerably cheaper than these specialist rear tyres for the GTA.
Le Mans cars were fitted with 16" front and 17" rear BBS style (ACT) two piece rims. These can be fitted to standard cars but the offset is incorrect. The geometry is affected and the wheels protrude from the arches.
Standard A610 wheels are 16" front and rear and were available in 'Turbine' and Spider styles. (The rear wheels were one inch wider than the Spider version and are not interchangeable). A610 wheels are 5 stud fitment. Aftermarket options are similar to the GTA.
