Traditional Auction Houses

GTA's occasionally crop up at traditional auctions. If you spot one, let me know and I'll include the details here.

Hi, spotted this at Cheffin's Action at Duxford last week (8/06/04). I attended the bike sale, so car sale was the next day. Looks like it didn't sell.

Nick Paybody.

1987 Renault Alpine GTA V6 Turbo
Registration Number: E671 VEX
Chassis Number: VFID5010500042090
Engine Number: 0003901
A rear wheel drive, rear-engined 2+2 coupe, the Renault Alpine GTA of 1985-1990 boasted many advanced features. Two engines were available, normally aspirated and as offered here, a 200bhp turbo version. The 2 ½ litre V6 is an all alloy engine with a single overhead camshaft to each bank of cylinders with a Garrett T3 turbocharger providing boost to the fuel/air mix.
The body consists of "stratified polyester (with integral safety bows) sealed to a steel tube chassis" (glass fibre with saturated thermosetting polyester) and independant suspension features all around with anti-roll bars front and rear and an anti-dive device on the front suspension. Such was the precise design of the car, its ideal weight distribution of 40/60 is said to be only truly perfect when the fluids are topped up.
An original UK car, this example shows a genuine mileage in the region of 77,000 backed up by appropriate paperwork. Painted Renault Pearl White, the car has black leather upholstery and whilst it does not have air conditioning, it does have remote central locking and an alarm. A comprehensive service history includes all the old MOTs and a fully stamped service book and further paperwork extends to a file that we are told weighs a massive eight pounds and includes a full set of original brochures and details of the body and chassis construction. MOT tested until January 2005, the car was last serviced in August 2003 since which time it has covered just 1,500 miles.
Estimate: £5,500-£6,500
