A610 RHD Plaques - Order by Chassis No or Fabrication No.

Postby stephendell » Mon Aug 08, 2011 12:06 am

We have numbered all of the RHD A610s by fabrication number and by chassis number. There are subtle difference between the two lists notably the last car.

We now need to decide which one to order by:

1 Chassis number (the order in which they were started)
(the long number VFAD503055000XXXXX)

or

2 Fabrication number (the order in which they were finished)
(the short number K010XXX)

For example my car would be number 53 by chassis number or number 52 by fabrication number.

If you want to know your provisional numbers in the meantime just post or send a PM

For the superstitious amongst you:

By fabrication #13 = K416 NTP (now 4 VRO)

By chassis #13 = J457 JTP (now A6 TEN)

J457 JTP was a total insurance loss in 1996 so maybe that is the more unlucky one!

Phildini is #18 either way. Makes no difference to his A610 which method is used.

In fact 13 cars stay the same number regardless of ordering method:

1, 18, 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 43, 44, 56

To clarify this is my understanding of how the numbering works:

The VIN number is given to a car prior to it being built, then it is put into production. The VIN number is in reality a schedule number, not a final build sequence number. If there is a problem with a part, or the car is damaged and can't continue, or the trim shop doesn't have the right color of carpet or interior piece for the car, then it is pulled from the line and later put back on the line (thus, being out of sequence); however, the VIN stays with the car. The fabrication number or 'build number' is assigned on completion.

Got to make a decision if we order un-numbered plaques and we stamp them as 610 owners request them ( the numbering might not look that professional ), or just get them all numbered ( all 63 ) which will cost £££££, or order just the right number as per request at this moment in time and then if another 610 owner wants one later date then it will be though luck!! as single ones cant be ordered.
