had to remove the intercooler to clean it as my old turbo was leaking oil and the intercooler is full of it.....

but to remove the intercooler you need to remove the rear bumper and guess what... all the bolts and clips were rusty and snapped and span... a real pain that was... and the problem is that while spinning the clips under the rear lights actually broke the fibreglass...

now i have to repair that somehow...

And then, the big day had arrived, finally, the engine was going back in :D :up

That was the day after La Vie en Bleu... Children and wife were away so no distractions... Didn't start very well when I dropped one of the newly refurbished slave cylinder bolt in the clutch fork slot by accident... Struggled to get it out and lost about 2 hours... took me the rest of the day to line everything up etc and here we go...

boom! :D :D :D :D :D :super

what a relief...

since i have connected a few things... but still plenty to do... but a lot closer now ;)

It's been a little while since I last posted here... Hum hum...

Was busy last summer rewiring then took a long break due to bad back and mostly the fantastic weather we've had in the last 6Months... You know it's been a while when the car is being used as toy shelter by the kids... :(

When rewiring I noticed the main earth lead (from the battery to the chassis) anchor point was quite corroded...

DSC_2458.JPG

So as it seems to be the hot topic recently I decided to have a peek at the front cross member...

I think the pictures speak louder than words... I need to get the layer of fibre glass covering the cross member off to see the real extend of the corrosion but I think it's safe to say that it needs to be addressed very soon...

Looking at the rust staining the old condensation has been at work, good luck it's not that bad a job to do on a Gta as long as you are a good welder. Doing it of blocks you have to support the car on the shell, you cannot have any stress on the frame work just support it so it cannot move.

Glad to see the Charge Cooler ports pointing upwards. Its the only way to keep air locks out of it.
Are you installing a swirl pot?
If not.....the way to prime it is with pressure from a hose pipe.

I was going to use a coiled duct pipe between Air filter and turbo......now I am wondering if the turbo may get contaminated air from the insde of the ducting. Might go back to an Ali pipe and silicone connectors.

Well, here we go, 4 years later it is finally back on the road, it's been a long journey, a lot of hard work, a lot of frustration and swearing, a great sense of achievement when things were going right especially when the engine came to life. Thanks to everyone who helped and supported along the way and a very big special thank you to Martin Faulks wouldn't have been possible without you ! Thank you

First outing on Thursday, about 10 miles round trip to the Mot station, passed.... What a sense of relief...

2nd outing today, 400miles round trip to Scoff for setting up on the rolling road, Chris worked his magic, sorted out a lot of my mistakes, the car is now transformed and amazing to drive, i still have a massive grin on my face, it's all been worth it
