Anyway one of the reasons for the cost was they had to do some additional welding around the seat belt anchor point. Just as they were starting the MOT test (separate and independent MOT site to the garage) the VOSA inspection team turned up for a spot check / examination.

Apparently they thought the car was great, however they used it then as an example and went over it with a fine toothcomb to QC the examiner's work. Sounds like they went to town on it. As a result I've got a much longer list of advisory notes than last time (which was stringent enough anyway) but it's now passed. Welding seemed a bit superfluous according to the garage but all done now for another year.
