Good news Tom Mautner (Old Oak Enfield MD) is on there, Steve do you have contact with him?

Yes we keep in touch. He came to Silverstone in 2011 for the A610 gathering.

Also know Chris quite well.

This is reported as being a Alpine test mule. Obviously based on a Lotus Exige but with some additions. 91 reg on the number plate could back this up.

Obviously those who subscribe to the Twitter feed will already be up to date with the events of the past couple of days but for those who chose not to then the news is that Renault no 2 Carlos Tavares has left the company after reportedly criticising Renault No 1, Carlos Ghosn for deciding not to stand down and allow Tavares to become his natural successor.
So what has all this boardroom shenanigans got to do with us here? The fact is that Tavares was the main force in the Alpine revival and French site autonewsinfo.com have already run the headline that suggests that Alpine is now a "orphan" .

I have asked Tony Fernandez to comment on the implications, if any, the news may have.

yes hints at "styling of Caterhams to come, including the alpine co project"
lets hope the driver isn't so far back in that one.

Be happy if the Alpine version looks that good :0). Looks like it will be a competitor for the Alfa 4C which is getting very good revews at around 45k. Its the engine gearbox combo that worries me. A high boost 1600 turbo and paddle shift just doesn't do it for me, just needs to be more exotic at that price point in my opinion. Trouble is Renault just doesn't have anything suitable in its armament for this type of car, and Nissans V6 while a decent lump would need to be lightened and tuned to rev more smoothly which could be done at a price.

Think the Alfa 4C only has stock 1.7 turbo running more boost.

I agree the 1.6 turbo would be rubbish and the very least they should go for the 2.0 so engine will have some tuning potential. Problem is 1.6 is already in Dieppe and 2.0 is in Poland or somewhere in eastern europe so more cost effective to use what is at hand.

However latest word is car will have an all new drivetrain...

Future proofing by down-sizing in my view. It's the natural trend at the moment.

Merc AMG's latest a 2 litre with 355 bhp. That's massive power for a production 2 litre turbo. What's the betting the next generation will be smaller still.

I'm just here for the gasoline.
