Oi Custard !! Get off my turf !!

Looking good Stuart .I think the main issue is the fact that a lot of it is hidden rot .You have to dig to find but it will be there 90% of the time .As you say not too suprising on a car of this age .

Martin, I,m afraid the ones on the Continent are as bad...I had the same bad starter, when hot, issues as some others on the site, traced it to a bad earth at the battery box, fitted 1 on each shock tower, when like Custard, I cut off the poly my, box section AT BOTH ENDS was not in contact with my shock towers, hence bad earth,& as the inner off the box from the towers does not continue to the base of the chassis, it means there is nothing holding them together apart from the fibreglass & I,ve been doing 230klm/hr... shit...time for a rethink & some re-engineering of the front chassis section.

Hi Glee
Thought every one knew I have set up South Coast Renault Alpine Services!!! :crazy

Mate don't know how you keep up with all those cars, two is enough for me !( And the wife!) To do someone else's would require serious amounts of wedge.. They would have to put up with no time limit owing to workshop working practices, long tea breaks with cake, plus cold bear after 6 with lots of standing around admiring work done?

Happy Christmas to everyone.

Ooh err, glad I sold mine before it got to this. Worse than an alfasud and that's saying something.
Looks like it might be time to get some cad drawings prepared of the key repair panels, they all look pretty simple cut and fold items so a cad drawing and a laser cutting company could speed the repairs a lot...

Happy Christmas everyone....

That's an interesting thing they have done to the front triangles, replacing with one piece, but I would have like to have some pressings on it rather than flat plate, thinking about it, doesn't tie into anything, so is it purely as a pedal box mount LHD and RHD?
All looks very good quality and shows what you can do with a nice big workshop, shell all stripped, on a lift, not falling over the lawn mower or kids bikes sticking into your kidneys every time you squeeze past the other side of the car!

Been away doing family things. As per my earlier posts most other cars that are 20/30 years old have either disappeared or been re-panelled and a lot of companys have made a big business out of making patern parts. There is not that much metal in the alpine but as thay are now all coming up for some work it would make sence to have some parts made. I did make templates for the front box section when I did the atmo and having just done the 610, the centre section Is same apart from some extra fixing holes and deviding plates. Kicking my self for not keeping the templates as I thought I would not do another one. Floor pans are a must, just redone the 610, it would be so much easier. With modern tec have the data on computer and have them cut when needed.

Well the car is all but done pictures will follow, however I rebuilt the suspension using the adjustable spax with original springs and I have managed to get the correct ride hight.
The car has been 4 wheel lazered and is correct, the spax are on 10 clicks up from bottom however I have never driven a 610 with a standard setup so I do not know how it should feel, but driving it is not relaxing, although it stays straight on smooth roads it is farly skittish on bumpey roads. Which is probably fine for track days but 98.9% of the time it will be road driving.
So my question is
1. is this normal for 610? If not
2. is it achievable to get a normal ride with the spax?
or do I put the original shock absorbers back on.
Any advice welcome.
