Mr Dell never informed me of the above when he sold me ATE SUPA DUPA, ( I was no expert in brake fluid systems ) and since then my brakes and clutch have failed numerous amount of time. Bought 5.1 ok for a while then failed again, which seems to me the two ( 5.1 and 5 ) fluids are still fighting with each other, keep getting air in the system. even thought I am using a bleeder from work, I am now in the process in draining the system completely; buying new hoses completely cleaning my ABS pump and try again. :evil: :evil:

I'm still not 100% convinced by Mr Dells answer ,especially with the special desing note in the manual next to dot 5 .Although the ABS pumps are the same 60 code GTA and 610 ....#
Perhaps someone can ask on a few of the French forums for us ???

The A610 manual states use only SAE j 1703 f

To meet this spec

Compatibility with other brake fluids must be complete SAE J1703/1704

So that rules out silicone which is SAE j 1705

Although the ABS pumps are the same 60 code GTA and 610 ....#


You have answered your own question!

Mr Dell never informed me of the above when he sold me ATE SUPA DUPA


You had the choice of the Super Blue or SL6.
Personally I think the SL6 was the better choice for your requirements.

No,it says SAE j1703 AND DOT5 ..Refer to design office :lol:

It depends whether you believe Renault regards the fluid code or the pump code :lol: :lol:

If Renault didn't even know, and in fact wrote two contradictory things right there on the fluid reservoir, what chance have we got?

and change ALL the rubber bits.....seals, hoses etc.
I'm sticking with the DOT 5 mine came with and still has. ABS- well the ones with DOT 4/5.1/6 it still doesn't work.
ABS light never comes on- that means the system isn't detecting slip, its an electricasl not hydraulic issue....
Yes I know dot 5 isn't recommended with ABS....

oh god.... dot3,,dot4...dot5...what the hell should we use. looks like we need an expert... lets ask frederick he can fix anything...on a renault 4

Lee, Going on what Steve writes..... are you sure you actually have got Dot 5 as opposed to Dot 5.1. As you have not re bled the system yourself, can you be sure what you have. Now that the problem has been flagged up, I would want to know for sure what it is filled with. And to that end, I would find an old piece of metal with some paint on it and put a drop of fluid on it from the reservoir and see if it reacts with the paint. :wink:

Also real DOT5 is much more compressible, hence wasn't usually used in performance cars............. my money is on Alpine not getting the label correct.

These are the same people remember who wired the entire instrument cluster in 200 shades of yellow :roll:

It's not just the label it's the workshop manual too, or at least some bits of it.
Yes I have rebled quite a bit of mine and used dot 5, not 5.1.
The reason dot 5 was popular in the 90s was it preserves brake systems...t(he stuff I bought is Harley recommended, maybe for the same reason). Remeber the a610 cylinders and callipers, including the clutch(, but not the abs pump) are all 610 specific, not shared with the GTA, it's only the abs modulator that is shared.
The abs computer is shared but not the wheel senders or wiring diagram.
If abs is working correctly the light comes on when slip is detected and the system is active, (as wel, as during self test.) Mine does the self test fine, including running the pump, it just doesn't t come on even when the front tyres are smoking. The othrs i have seen are the same, they seem to work on start up, but dont join in when it gets exciting.
Therefore i have concluded that the A610 abs issues are electrical not hydraulic.....
We definitely have two camps....
