Alpine A220

Postby Garybarnz » Sun Apr 01, 2018 7:36 am

An Ex-works Renault Alpine A220 is currently for sale in the UK, No mention of price! bit it can claim Jean Pierre Jabouille as a team driver. The car has been subject to a 20 year restoration and looks fantastic.

I’m amazed that whoever did the restoration took it upon themselves to sacrifice the original ‘long tail’ for a rather abbreviated Kamm type. Surely this will have somewhat devalued such an iconic racing car.
However I’d still be more than happy to make some space in the garage for it.

Oh Yes - I see what you mean. Like you I would still take it!

assume back in the day it would have been changed to either type depending on the circuit. It does mention having parts for the long tail if not the actual tail itself.
never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.

I believe it was the factory that converted it to short tail to make it more competitive when they retired it from endurance racing.

I like the fact that it is road legal :-)

It is nice but not knowing much about them, thought it would have been left hand drive.

Traditionally 2-seater sports racers were usually right hand drive, eg GT40, Porsche 917...

iirc, has to be warmed up and then spark plugs changed before driving it.... might be road legal but not exactly practical!

try googling the young graduate designer at the time, André De Cortanze and see how his career panned out!

Hi all.
This car was exhibited at Origine RS at Goodwood in 2014 by, Tim Moores and , I think some sort of consortium of French enthusiasts.

Nice car...!
