MASSIVE the 0 to 60 some where between 3.5/4.5 if you can get grip, there is that stuff you can buy that you put on the tarmac that makes the tyres grip better if you are allowed, plus get some serious soft rubber :Ass_Kick

BUT....THE.... GEARBOX..... WILL..... EXPLODE !!!
It's known that anything above 370/400 and the UN1 WILL fail ..end of ....doesn't matter what you've done to the internals.

Interesting discussion, guys - keep it coming!

Anyway, by way of an update - I visited the tuning place today. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do a full tune because the knock sensor I fitted isn't working. It could need adjustment or my knock sensors might be faulty. So I now have to go back to the drawing board.

They've given me some suggestions, so I will check them out!

However, they were able to set the timing properly - I had struggled to do that on my own. And the initial ignition advance table to a safe default. They put the car on the rollers for a bit and I can confirm that the car spits BLUE flames - seriously cool:

Now starts the research as to how to test the knock sensors and module!

I was impressed by the tuning shop - they were very friendly and careful with the car. Didn't want to push the tune until we got a working knock sensor. And they didn't charge me for the brief dyno time.

Isn't 200/250 BHP enough for a 30 year old sports car? :wave

I've been on here for years and never seen anyone succeed in mega bhp (We are talking over 350 bhp). It's like watching the curse of oak island on sky (a treasure hunting series). They never find nowt apart from a few scrag ends but it's compulsive viewing none the less.

Which box did the Venturi 400 use then out of interest?

Don’t forget that you need a fan on the intercooler when they start to map it...let hope the flaming exhausts don’t damage that...
Will be interesting to see where you get with this...

Good point I think the box is good for a max of 400 but that engine is a 16 v which would probably have the torque curve slightly higher up the Rev range.
I agree that 250hp is plenty for a road going car with no electronic aids and that is in about ton, most modern powerful cars may be 500/600hp but look at there Wt 1.8 to 2.5 ton so you are up there.

I was going to go big Hp but to start with going normally aspirated 3lt and hopefully get 240/50hp as l am not a big fan of turbos, as I would prefer to add more cubes instead far less complicated easier to work on and less heat and a much better power delivery.

Every one focuses on Hp, yep put a hot cam in and you will get it like a 70s two stroke 2500rpm sweet spot 3500 to 5500 the holy grail is smooth from min to max, over take now shi..t rong gear of spool to late. :Butt

Well that's because everyone can understand it and that's what we were discussing.
But yes I take your point and turbos do need dialing in for purpose. Changing the box on Ratty soon so we'll see what difference that makes.Ratios to get up and out as fast as poss, not bothered about top end, trying to keep it spooled in the corners etc etc.
For road cars it really doesn't matter these days as you can't drive them in the way you would like...A bit of turbo lag on the M25?

SHaft upgraded gearbox is used reliably in 400 ft/lb kit cars. Doesn't seem to have any issues with 300-350 without upgrade. I've ended up with more power than I wanted . Wanted the 430 bhp engine but was significantly cheaper to buy the in stock 495 bhp after the pound bombed after Brexit vote. And for fitting reasons have had to fit better headers and electric water pump worth another 20 bhp or so. Low end torque is a little down on the less powerful engine which could work in my favour. I'm hoping to be able to run a few different maps so will start with about 350 for running in and learning how not to kill myself period and gradually wind it up. The power delivery will be kinder on the gearbox, it won't need dumped clutch starts. If it proves problematical it can have a standard transaxle bolted straight back in and the engine is easy to sell on . Just something I'd always fancied doing, it might be rubbish , but it just might be fantastic :0)

Venturi 400 used UN1 408 bhp, and further tweaked for competition. The 600bhp LeMans racer used a Hewland box. Hopefully I might find out soon.
