RHD TO LHD conversion

Postby claudiu_rem » Fri Dec 08, 2017 2:17 pm

Hi guys! I am new to the forum. I have just purchased a V6 turbo alpine, 1989 registered from the UK. I would like to switch from rhd to lhd. Has anyone did this? I found a dashboard and steering rack in Italy, but he is asking 5000 euro for it, and i think it's very exagerated. I know that the Alpine has front mechanics from the Renault 25, but i don't know if the steering rack is the same as in the 25. Any breakers that have reasonable prices? Thank you

Clee can help with the all important inner front bulkhead and general guidance having just done this.

Think it will be cheaper for you to buy another car though...

It's quite involved but doable.

I have a LHD bulkhead panel but you can't just chop that in.I made panels as required using the new bulkhead as a template/mould.
You will need steering rack, gear linkage and stick, pedalbox, fueltank, wiper linkage ++ bits I forget and a lot of time to do it ;)
SimonAuto in Germany should be able to supply most parts you will need .

Thank you for the fast reply. I will try to find another car for parts. If not, i will let it rhd. Does the steering rack fits from a Renault 25?

The blue one from ebay?

May I suggest you start by fixing the engine before converting it to LHD? Bargain by the way, well bought.

Shame that another one will leave the UK. :(

My understanding is that the steering rack is from the Fuego, not R25. Hope that helps.

This one left the country three weeks ago, but went to Bulgaria for full restoration, the steering wheel will not be changed.

that's right, but when it's finished and ready for a new life I'll get her back here to drive it and enjoy it! If someone gave some info about her, I would be very grateful!

Paul Godfrey had it last I think was Martin Guard's prior to that.

No it's good news it's getting restored and used.

Tell us more about the rest of your collection?

Eastern European restorers way to go for much cheapness while we are still in the Eu. As recommended by Mr Brewer for his e type. Make sure you bring it back before Brexit to avoid customs!
