English version for a 94 L plate would be nice 8)
My new problem is the compressor for the air-con,its got two red wires coming from it,ones connected to a white wire in the loom the others just dangling loose :shock: I'm in the process of getting the aircon regassed and was wondering if the compressor only kicks in if your fully gassed up?The other thing is nobody seems to want to touch it cause its R12,is this the norm?Is it just a case of removing the R12 and filling with R134a or do you have to change the compressor seals?Theres still some R12 in there but i dont know how much,was told yesterday you get charged £12 a gram to dispose it :shock:

They won't touch it if R12 as it will eff-up the recharge unit.I've just had mine converted to 134,£50 retro fit ,£60 check and regass,£5 dye so £135 incl.Methinks the disposal isssue is a bit of B~~~~cks as they didn't even mention it ,good job as the system holds 900 g :shock:
The charge ports are different and this is part of the refit so you can't get the two mixed up .

So £135 for a conversion to R134a dont sound to bad,i was starting to think 4 figures with the disposal of the old stuff,think i better get on the phone tomoz and shop around
Stephen i got the aircon diagrams from Juzzblack but thanks anyway

Thanks to some info from Geoff, you can refil the system with Isceon 49, its a replacement for R12 and doesnt require any modifications to the system (seals, pipes etc) and is available in the UK, fully legal..

Especially if you happen to have accidentally unscrewed a joint and emptied the system yourself. :wink:

You can also simply re-fill with RS24 the compatible replacement gas with no other changes.

Hi Jamie,
Interesting news on the choices of gases from David and Stephen- will have to try one of those in mine once I work out what is wrong with my A/C system. Pump starts, idle rises as it should, good gas flowing noises and I can see even some bubbles through the tell tale on the ?filter unit?but no cooling at all. I think there is gas, as the pump would not start otherwise. Hope the pump is OK........

However as my pump starts I can maybe help you with the wiring. There is a white wire out of the loom which goes into the first red wire. On mine this is a bullet connector, but this does not look original.. This red then runs along the side of the compressor and disappears under a cover at the opposite end to the pulley. From this a second red wire comes forward and then disapprears under the pulley at the front. Sounds like maybe there is a cut on one of those wires if yours has two detatched red wires.
If you can't work it out, I might be able to get a picture of mine in a day or two and e-mail it to yo- let me know if ythat would help.

For those wondering why A/C is useful in Scotland- I had a new company car when I lived in Edinburgh, never tried the A/c when I could tell if it worked. After 10 months we had a couple of hot days (yes it can hit 30 degrees in Scotland for those who have not lived there). No A/c at all- when fixed the garage said it could never have worked. I was so unhappy on those two days, and it had decent airflow- an Alpine on a hot day is MUCH worse. Yes I must be a soft southerner!
