A610 dragging rear caliper

Does anyone have experience with the above problem? I think the piston might be sticking, as it's fine when the car is cold, but if I drive it for longer periods, the right-rear caliper drags. Could it be the handbrake? Have ordered a caliper rebuild kit. Presumably it's reasonably standard fare? I just intend removing the piston, checking it for corrosion, polishing it and refitting with new seals...

Does it drag all the time or particularly round corners?

I think it's all the time. I have carefully coasted up to traffic lights and the car jerks to a halt. When parked at home after a longer drive, I can't push the car. When it's all cooled off, I can push it freely.

you could disconnect the hand brake to ensure it is not part of the cause.

My GTA behaves in a similar manner, but does not drag all of the time.

I have heard that "dragging" happens more on the rear, due to less use, and also when car has not been used for ages. Something about the bores not being used and sticking. Has been known to be cured by winding piston up and down the boores a little way past where it currently sits.

Will be interested to hear or see what your bores look like and if the seals fix it. DOnt forget that the A610 rear calipers may have handbrake mechanism integrated, as they are on GTA.

The hand Brake isn't that special on the 610 or the Gta, you have either a sticking Hambrake cable or there is a return spring between the lever arm and the Caliper if this has got week or is missing the washer it will not push the arm fully back. Look at this befor stripping it down.

On my 610 this was caused by a dragging handbrake cable, changed that and all was fine and the handbrake worked better too, shame Id had the caliper overhauled first.

I had this on my GTA. Not sure if the 610 is the same calliper. I got an overhaul kit from Big Red. the piston had stuck in the calliper & the springs were not strong enough to return the lever. The cable was also seized into the back plate bracket & calliper lever. I had to sacrifice it to get the calliper off the car & onto the bench. Once stripped it was quite straightforward. Lee came up trumps with a cable & I believe he can supply rebuilt/refurbished callipers.

I fixed it yesterday. As it happens, the handbrake cable was all fine. When I removed the caliper, the seal around the piston was damaged. There was loads of dried up grease and gunk. Stripping it all down, cleaning it and replacing the seals is all that was required. Very happy to have fixed the caliper myself!
